An ideal resting place

Our 87-acre memorial park has served the families of Scott County for almost a century. In fact, Davenport Memorial Park was among the earliest cornerstones of our growing community. Today, mature trees with seasonal foliage complement an array of colorful flowers and tasteful adornments across each memorial garden.

Your tour begins at our front gate, a natural low point now home to an idyllic duck pond, complete with its own waterfall. A broad double boulevard leads directly to our bell tower, positioned on one of the highest points of ground in the metro area. Statuary, bricks, bronze features and stonework accent each garden.

We honor veterans

At Davenport Memorial Park, we understand the unique needs of America’s veterans and their families. As a Level Four Founding Community Partner with We Honor Veterans, we are honored to serve our nation’s heroes and take this responsibility seriously. We have taken steps to ensure our staff is knowledgeable of all the benefits available to military veterans and their families.

In addition, we host community events annually in honor of our veterans and work closely with local veterans organizations. With respect, integrity and dignity, we will walk you through the steps of creating a veteran’s memorial service that truly honors the life and sacrifice of your loved one.

Local veterans groups inspired and assisted the creation of our unique etched granite All Veterans Memorial in the northernmost area of the grounds. We are experienced with veterans burials and often conduct committal services with military honors. We also offer traditional in-ground burial or above-ground entombment.

Distinct cemetery options

For convenience and peace of mind, we provide for the interment of ashes in an ossuary. Family estates mark a unique option to preserve the family legacy for generations to come, with a central gathering place for future generations to reflect.

The innovation and high quality of the park’s appearance have guided the development of programs for the benefit of our families, such as floral maintenance and memorial benches.

History

Davenport Memorial Park began serving families as a cemetery in Davenport, Iowa, in 1929 on a tract of farm ground located in the northern outskirts of the city. Nestled between two other cemeteries, the development plan took full advantage of the existing ground contours. A small valley coming down from the high ground on either side forms the entrance of our front gate. This natural low point was the perfect place for the creation of our duck pond with its own waterfall, the first landscape architecture of this type in our community.

The bell tower and All Veterans Memorial

Proceeding north from the entrance, a broad double boulevard leads directly to our bell tower, a dramatic and visible landmark used as a ground reference point by pilots on their way to the airport.

The use of landscape architecture to accentuate natural beauty continues throughout the grounds. Statuary, brick, bronze features and stonework are combined with plantings to create visual interest. In the 1990s, Davenport Memorial Park joined forces with local veteran groups to create the unique etched granite All Veterans Memorial in the northernmost area of the grounds.
